Edinburgh International Conference Centre

Edinburgh International Conference Centre is one of the world’s most prestigious and popular conference centres. Situated in the Exchange District in the west end of Edinburgh, the Conference Centre was designed by Sir Terry Farrell. The conference centre, which had an extension added in 2013, now hosts more than 200,000 people every year.

In 1999 the Church of Scotland’s Assembly Hall was being used by the Scottish Parliament, so the Edinburgh International Conference Centre hosted the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting was also held there in 1997.

Edinburgh has always been very popular with tourists but the Edinburgh International Conference Centre was built specifically to bring more business visitors to the city. Since the centre opened in 1995 it has welcomed over a million delegates to over three thousand events. The Centre is owned by the City of Edinburgh Council and generates income from these events for the city as a whole.
