Brighton Centre

Brighton Centre is the largest conference and exhibition centre of its kind in southern England. It is often used for the conferences of political parties and other large national bodies. It has the capacity to comfortably accommodate five thousand delegates, though smaller rooms in the venue are often used for smaller events such as weddings or banquets. It is also often used as a live music venue. Brighton Centre has also hosted the British Open snooker, and since 2007 it has been host to the Premier League Darts.

Situated on the seafront, Brighton Centre was opened in September 1977 by Prime Minister James Callaghan during the Labour Party conference which was being held in the building at the time. Callaghan had in fact been consulted regarding facilities before the Centre was built. It replaces an older building which had doubled as an ice rink, but had been closed by its owners when it proved unprofitable.

Brighton Centre is widely regarded as one of the finest venues in the country, offering high quality conference facilities to organisers and delegates alike.

In January 2012 Brighton Centre underwent a refurbishment of its main entrance which transformed its outer facade. The restaurant also saw changes, and now boasts floor to ceiling windows with stunning views of the seafront. There have been calls for the Centre to be knocked down in order to make way for an extension to a shopping centre, but with the Centre bringing so much income and so many people to Brighton, it seems unlikely that this will happen unless a replacement conference centre is built.
